How to Clean a Removable Shower Head?

Removing the shower head from arm is the best way to clean it. Distilled white vinegar as well as baking soda is very useful substance for cleaning. You should have some necessary things such as pliers, thread seal tape, deep bucket or pot.

  • Remove the filter from the shower head

At first you have to unscrew the nut of the shower that is the connection between a shower arm and shower filter. Pliers are needed to loosen the nut. Shower cartridge and the filter should be remove carefully otherwise the seal will damage and you might replace it.

  • Clean the filter

You will need a pot which is filled with cleaner, soak the filter in it and use a sponge to clean the nozzles of your filter. you can also use old toothbrush and vinegar while scrubbing to get a good result. Strong flow of water could make it easy to clean and hold it upside down makes it easier. Use a safety pin or a toothpick to stick out the elements that clogged the path of water.

  • Clean the shower filter and the shower arm

Before installing the filter again, you should clean the arm and the shower head. Soak them in a solution of vinegar and rub with a sponge to remove dirt from it. Drown the arm in the cleaner until all sludge’s are clean.

  • Reassemble the filter

Arrange the threads of your shower filter with plumbing tape around the shower arm, tighten the nut enough with a plier. If you set the filter very tightly, it could break the plastic. Screw it by hand into place.

To ensure that your shower filter is working accurately, let the water run for some time.  If you observe that your filter is not working properly or doesn’t have enough pressure in the water, you should apart them again fixed it tightly.

How to Clean a Non-Removable Shower Head?

When the joint of your shower head is crusted with harmful elements like mineral deposit, it becomes hard to detach it from shower arm. With a little patience, you can clean it nicely.

  • Tools and supplies you will need

  • White vinegar
  • Plastic storage bag
  • Toothpick
  • Rubber band or tape
  • Old toothbrush
  • Cleaning cloth
  • Prepare the cleaning bag

Pour one cup white vinegar inside a plastic storage bag which is big enough to carry enough vinegar and cover the shower head completely. It is good to use a food storage bag instead of using other plastic bags.

  • Secure the cleaning bag

Fixed your bag to the arm with a masking tape or rubber band tightly. While using tape, you need to keep your arm away from the fixture because it could be hard to remove and might ruin the finishes.

  • Soak

Let your shower head drown in the solution for few hours or you can keep it overnight for better result. You cannot warm up the vinegar so, it takes long time to clean the shower head.

  • Remove the bag and scrub

Remove the solution bag from the shower head and clean it off with a cleaning cloth. Dip some vinegar on a toothbrush and scrub it thoroughly. If you still see the mineral deposit, use a safety pin or toothpick to remove it and open the jet to run water smoothly.

  • Rinse and repeat

To wash away the remaining debris, you should turn the shower on for a few minutes. If you find any hindrance, repeat the process with vinegar.
